To go with our re-opening next week we're pleased to welcome our new General Operations manager. Bertie joins us this month and will be managing our trading operations and leading our bar, kitchen and administrative teams. He'll be working alongside our Community & Partnerships Manager and The Bevy Management Committee to continue to serve our community and take our mission to the next level.
We're looking forward to seeing him behind the bar next week and he's looking forward to meeting all of our lovely customers. Here are a few words from Bertie by way of an introduction:
"I got into pouring pints back in the 90's when I went to college to study Blacksmithing and Metalwork. I needed to pay the rent so bagged a job at the local nightclub, started on the cloakroom and ended up as bar manager. I have been manning the pumps ever since.
As Ops Manager, I will try to be the grease between all the gears at The Bevy. Helping the kitchen and bar keep up the great work they are already doing, refining the current procedures and implementing a few of my own. I'm most looking forward to getting to know lots of new people from the Bevy community. The customers are what makes a pub and I love hearing about their lives and stories. I have always said that the local should be at the heart of the community and the Bevy is the epitome of that. It is owned by, run by and for the local community. What can be more representative of a pub than that?
When I'm not working I enjoy a good hike over the Downs, always have. Reading, a trip to a museum, watching a good series on Netflix (Other streaming services are available). But nothing beats going to the pub for a good catch up with friends.
Spending a balmy summer’s day watching Sussex play cricket is my perfect idea of a day off. I was first taken to see Brighton & Hove Albion play football at the old Goldstone ground in the early 80's and have followed them ever since. My favourite international competition is the Rugby 6 Nations. An annual event crammed into 7 weekends, best team wins."
